ENERGY STAR qualified homes are verified to ensure the home’s envelope has been constructed tightly. During the homebuilding process, contractors make holes for electrical outlets, pipes, and wiring. HERS Raters identify any holes that have not been properly sealed and check for proper sealing around windows and door jams.

Tight construction can eliminate drafts, moisture, dust, pests, and pollen and may contribute to a healthy, affordable, and more comfortable home.

Performance is verified by using a blower door, which measures air leaks to confirm the house meets strict EPA standards.
