High Efficiency Heating and Cooling Equipment

A high-performance and properly sized heating and cooling system is an important feature of an ENERGY STAR qualified home. HERS Raters work with ENERGY STAR homebuilders to ensure the proper sizing of your HVAC system. Mechanical contractors should follow ACCA Manuals J and S, ASHRAE 2001 Handbook of Fundamentals, or an equivalent computation procedure to determine the correct sizing for each home plan, location and site orientation to solar gains.

Bigger is Not Better with HVAC equipment. Your house may not require a big unit because the home works as a system.  A properly sized HVAC system will provide more even and constant temperatures, control humidity much better, and allow filters to clean the air better.  In short, you have better indoor air quality and a more comfortable home.

By combining an energy-efficient HVAC system with appropriate insulation, air sealing, and windows, you can reduce your energy bills, increase the durability of your HVAC equipment, and reduce the greenhouse gases in the air we breathe.
